Learning through experience is a powerful way to learn to live and also, to paint. My lifelong roots in the South (both of the USA and México) expose me to the diverse ways we human beings understand, embrace, and interpret our culture and ourselves. With time, we create and populate our unique, fantastic inner worlds with those experiences of transformation and acculturation.

As an adolescent in junior high school, I took "art" classes, which met 5 days a week, and involved painting an endless number of trees with green and brown tempera paints on rough construction paper. That largely technical experience did nothing to inspire me. They were my first and last art classes.

In the 59 years since then, I have preferred to paint conceptual, abstract, or non-representational images. My non-figurative paintings weave together beautiful colors and touchable textures to construct a visible, tangible rendition of inner, mainly unconscious realities. I paint to explore and express my curiosity about the beauty and wonder of our inner and outer universes. I find inspiration in the curious universe inside me.

To face a blank canvas, choose beautiful paint colors, and begin to produce an attractive image thrills me. Colors, especially blues, acrylic paints, and various textural elements are the magical instruments that I am lucky to have available and that I am grateful to employ in order to create abstract works that I find beautiful to look at and touch. And, when I fail? Well, I paint the work over and begin anew.

I attempt to externalize and transmit parts of my inner world through an abstract colorful reality that can be shared with others. The aim and pleasure of painting lie in expressing through colors and textures my interpretations of the subtle and intangible beauty everywhere in the human and natural worlds.

I paint in different ways and styles because the realities inside and outside me are always in metamorphosis. Through the effort, I want to express visually emotions or movement present within. Each painting initiates an exciting, unknown, and mostly unpredictable journey of transformation. This is true for me and perhaps for the viewer, also.

The journey and discovery of the transformation wrought seem to vanish when the painting is finished. For this reason, I cannot satisfactorily or successfully repeat a painting, whether exactly or approximately. Thus, each painting is unique, with its own distinct, pleasant-to-touch "feeling."

El aprender por experiencia propia es una vía impresionante de aprender a vivir y también a pintar. Viviendo a lo largo de mi vida en el Sur, tanto de los EE.UU. como de México, he sido expuesto a mil maneras en que los seres humanos llegamos a comprender, abrazar e interpretar nuestra cultura y a nosotros mismos. Con los años, llevamos toda esta transformación y aculturación vivida adentro, para poblar con ello los fantásticos universos exclusivos que creamos y habitamos.

Como adolescente en la secundaria, tomé clases de "arte" que se reunían 5 días por semana, que consistían en pintar sobre cartoncillo de acabado rugoso un sinfín de árboles, con pinturas témpera verde y café. Esa experiencia mayormente técnica no me inspiró lo suficiente, por lo cual aquéllas fueron mis primeras y últimas clases de arte.

En 59 años desde entonces, he preferido pintar imágenes conceptuales no representativas, es decir, abstractas. Mis cuadros no figurativos entrelazan colores y texturas para construir una interpretación visible y tangible de mis realidades, principalmente inconscientes. Encuentro inspiración en la exploración y expresión de la belleza de los fantásticos universos internos y externos.

Hacer frente a un lienzo en blanco, elegir pinturas, colores y comenzar a crear una imagen hermosa, me emociona. Los colores, en especial los azules, las pinturas acrílicas y varios elementos de textura son los instrumentos mágicos que tengo la buena suerte de tener a mi disposición. Estoy agradecido de poder aplicarlos en la creación de obras abstractas que encuentro hermosas de ver y que invitan a ser tocadas. Y ¿cuando fracaso? Pinto el lienzo encima y comienzo de nuevo.

Intento plasmar y transmitir rastros de un mundo interior oculto a través de una colorida realidad externa abstracta que se puede compartir con el espectador. El empeño y placer de pintar radican en el compartir mediante los colores y texturas mi interpretación de la belleza casi imperceptible del ser humano y su mundo natural.

Pinto de diferentes estilos y maneras porque las realidades están en metamorfosis continua. A través de mi esfuerzo, quiero expresar visualmente emociones o movimientos presentes dentro de mí.

Cada cuadro inicia un viaje de transformación emocionante y en gran parte impredecible. Esto es cierto para mí y tal vez para el espectador también.

El viaje y el descubrimiento de la transformación forjada en cada cuadro se desvanecen para mí cuando está terminado. Por esta razón, no puedo rehacer con éxito o satisfacción el mismo cuadro. Es así que cada obra es única y tiene su propio "feeling" y realidad tocable.
